Block Printing and Natural Dyeing Atelier

Syrian, Iraqi and host community women have been developing their skills on block printing, sewing, hand embroidery as well as creating a fusion of traditional design and modern, sleek design.

Even practiced by ancient civilizations, block printing was once a prominent handicraft in Anatolia practiced by many families as a small business. Today, since digital printing replaced block printing, this traditional handicraft is going into oblivion. With a vision to rejuvenate this ancient handicraft, the atelier’s women artisans learned this handicraft from its experienced artisan trainer and practice traditional techniques with precision.

The women artisans have also been learning to make madder dye from botanical raw materials. They are now capable of producing dyes with 9 different colours from botanical extracts and materials.
